About The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Doctor to join both our AFLW & VFLW Programs in May 2026.
This role will play a vital part in delivering high-quality medical care across both programs, assisting the AFLW Head Doctor with injury management, performance interventions and player welfare. You will be responsible for ensuring all players selected to play for the Melbourne Football Club are medically fit to train and compete, with duties including medical support at training sessions, game days, and supporting the wider football programs.
You will be required to attend one training session and one match day each week.
This is a part-time maximum term position, involving approximately 13.5 hours per week, with a commencement date in May 2026.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Reporting directly to the AFLW Head Doctor, the key areas of responsibilities will include:
You are a dedicated and experience AHPRA-registered medical professional, with experience supporting elite athletes. You understand the medical demands of high-performance sport and are ready to lead a high-quality medical program that prioritises athlete, health, safety and performance.
With a deep knowledge of injury management and evidence-based treatments, your committed to keeping athletes safe, healthy and competition-ready. You have a thorough understanding of WADA, ASADA, and illicit Drug codes, and are committed to ensuring all treatments, supplements, and interventions are compliant with the AFL Anti-doping Code.
You are a collaborative leader, skilled in working within multidisciplinary environments and can communicate, build trust, and form strong relationships with players, coaches, and staff. You lead with integrity and care, contributing to a united, athlete-centred environment and driving individual and team success.

- Provide high-quality medical care to AFLW & VFLW players, including injury prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation.
- Oversee the delivery of medical services to AFLW & VFLW players, working collaboratively with other medical staff to ensure the effective management of player injuries and health issues.
- Assist in developing and implementing injury prevention strategies and protocols, working closely with coaching staff to ensure they align with the team's game plan and player development goals.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to coaching and High-Performance staff and players on injury management and return-to-play protocols.
- Assist in the implementation of the AFLW & VFLW concussion management protocol, ensuring it aligns with best practice standards and reflects the unique requirements of the AFLW & VFLW competition.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments in sports medicine, including research and innovation in injury prevention, diagnosis, and management.
- Ensure all medical records are maintained and managed in accordance with AFL and Melbourne FC policies and regulations.
