About the Role

We are seeking a VP of Software Engineering to define and execute the software strategy behind our quantum computing platform. You will build and scale a high-performing engineering organisation responsible for the full software stack - from embedded control systems to cloud services and developer tools.

This role sits at the intersection of physics, hardware engineering, and advanced software systems, requiring both strategic leadership and deep technical expertise.

Key Responsibilities

Software Strategy & Leadership

• Define and own the long-term software roadmap
• Lead architecture decisions across embedded systems, firmware, control software, and cloud platforms
• Build, mentor, and scale high-performing engineering teams
• Establish engineering best practices, quality standards, and CI/CD processes

Architecture & Systems Development

• Oversee development of:
• Embedded and real-time control systems
• Firmware and device communication layers
• Quantum compiler toolchains and execution runtimes
• Ensure scalable, secure, and reliable software delivery

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner with physics, hardware, electronics, and product teams
• Translate complex scientific requirements into scalable software architectures
• Align software development with hardware milestones and experimental progress

Team & Culture

• Build an inclusive, high-ownership engineering culture
• Lead hiring, workforce planning, and capability development
• Provide technical mentorship across all levels

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience
• 5+ years in senior leadership roles (Director, VP, Head of Engineering)
• Strong background in embedded systems and real-time software
• Experience in hardware–software integration
• Experience delivering complex technical products to production
