Head of Engineering

Brightsmith are currently partnering with a leading Hydrogen developer in Scandinavia looking to bring on a Head of Engineering to lead the technical function, shape the engineering strategy, and drive the successful delivery of complex, safety-critical projects from concept through to operation.

This is a senior leadership role for someone who combines deep engineering expertise with the ability to build teams, set standards, and turn ambitious plans into real-world assets.

Requirements

• Lead and own the company’s engineering strategy across all projects and technologies
• Build, manage, and mentor a multidisciplinary engineering team
• Oversee technical delivery from early-stage concept and FEED through detailed design, construction, and commissioning
• Set and maintain engineering standards, processes, and governance with a strong focus on safety and quality
• Act as the senior technical authority for key design and investment decisions
• Work closely with commercial, project, and leadership teams to align technical solutions with business objectives
• Manage external partners, consultants, EPCs, and suppliers
• Drive continuous improvement in cost, performance, reliability, and scalability of projects

Experience Required

• Senior-level engineering leadership experience in energy, industrial, chemicals, infrastructure, or related sectors
• Strong background in process, mechanical, electrical, or systems engineering for complex industrial projects
• Proven track record delivering large-scale, capital-intensive, or safety-critical projects
• Demonstrated experience building and leading high-performing engineering teams
• Strong understanding of the hydrogen market, including production pathways, infrastructure, and end-use applications
• Solid technical knowledge of hydrogen technologies such as electrolysis, storage, compression, transport, or related systems
• Experience working across the full project lifecycle, from early development and FEED through to construction and commissioning
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
