Software Engineer

Location: Sydney (Hybrid: 3 days in office, 2 days WFH)

Salary: $140k–$150k base + super (flexible)

Our client is a fast-growing technology business who have built a white-label e-commerce platform that enables enterprise customers to access and purchase complex data products. With a strong pipeline of new clients and rapid growth, they operate with the agility of a startup while serving some of the largest names in financial services and data markets.

The role

We are seeking a Backend Software Engineer with full-stack capability to join the engineering team. This role will focus predominantly on backend development (around 80%), building APIs and services that power the platform and integrate with customer systems. You’ll also have the opportunity to collaborate on front-end features (React) when needed.

This is a hands-on engineering role within a collaborative team environment. You’ll work from clearly defined requirements, building robust backend systems that enable smooth and secure data transactions at scale.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs in Python
• Model, optimise, and manage Postgres databases to support critical product functionality
• Ensure reliable and secure data flows from providers to end-users
• Contribute to code reviews, testing frameworks, and deployment best practices
• Collaborate with front-end engineers on API contracts and occasional React integration
• Work closely with DevOps to enhance CI/CD pipelines and Kubernetes-based deployments

Tech stack

• Backend: Python (primary), some Java
• Database: Postgres, SQL
• Frontend: React (exposure useful)
• Cloud & Infrastructure: AWS, Kubernetes

About you

• 6+ years of software engineering experience, with strong backend/API depth
• Proficiency in Python and solid engineering fundamentals
• Strong SQL skills and hands-on experience with Postgres
• Familiarity with AWS cloud environments and containerised deployments (Kubernetes)
• Comfortable working in a fast-moving, startup-style environment with high ownership
• Strong communication skills and ability to deliver from defined requirements

Nice to have

• Experience in e-commerce, marketplace, or data product platforms
• Exposure to front-end development (React)
• Experience in capital markets, fintech, or data services
• Prior startup or scale-up experience
