ABOUT THE ROLE
Join JJ’s Waste & Recycling as a Cybersecurity Engineer and play a pivotal role in protecting our digital environment. This technical and strategic role will see you manage threats, drive cyber resilience, and implement industry-aligned security measures.
You will work collaboratively across cybersecurity, systems and infrastructure, and business teams, helping embed a strong cybersecurity culture while supporting ongoing project delivery, incident response, and continuous improvement initiatives.
This is a permanent position working out of our Cleveland Head office.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implement and maintain cybersecurity frameworks aligned with ISO27001, SOC2, and ASD Essential Eight
- Identify, assess, and manage vulnerabilities and threats across systems and networks
- Support incident response including detection, containment, investigation, and recovery
- Assist in delivery of the cybersecurity roadmap and strategic initiatives
- Monitor security systems and alerts, conduct risk assessments and support compliance efforts
- Provide expert guidance to internal stakeholders and drive a security-first mindset
- Maintain and secure infrastructure environments across cloud and on-prem systems
- Automate tasks such as log analysis and alerting using scripting tools (e.g., Python, PowerShell)
- Develop documentation, reports, and maintain up-to-date procedures
- Contribute to training, awareness programs, and continuous improvement activities
ABOUT YOU
- Proven experience in a cybersecurity engineering or analyst role
- Strong knowledge of networking, systems security (Windows, Linux, macOS), and cloud platforms (Microsoft 365, AWS, Azure)
- Familiar with tools such as SIEMs, IDS/IPS, EDR, vulnerability scanners, and Web Application Firewalls
- Skilled in scripting and automation (Python, Bash, PowerShell)
- Excellent understanding of encryption, PKI, secure email protocols (SPF, DKIM, DMARC)
- Effective communicator with strong documentation and interpersonal skills
- Passionate about cybersecurity with a continuous learning mindset
- Proficient in the use of AI tools to solve problems and improve efficiency
- Able to work both independently and collaboratively across technical and non-technical teams
- Relevant qualifications such as a Bachelor’s in Cybersecurity/ Information Technology and other relevant courses such as CompTIA Security+, SSCP, CISSP are highly desirable
