🌰️ In a nutshell: A Senior Engineer I is a senior UX role focused on end-to-end projects and mentoring. You lead UX for complex initiatives, define UX strategies, and align stakeholders through clear communication and strong facilitation. You mentor less senior designers, contribute to design standards, and help improve ways of working across the UX team. You partner closely with product and engineering to ensure UX quality and consistency.

Product thinking

Solid execution and participation in product thinking: Strong understanding of team roles and responsibilities, and how to collaborate effectively with product, engineering, and stakeholders. Strong understanding of product goals, key outcomes, and how features impact the roadmap. Participation and leading if necessary of research activities (interviews, usability testing, synthesis) with clear methods and actionable insights. Participates in new product discovery workshops and pre-sales initiatives with some guidance from senior members.

Process

You execute the design process with expert consistency, delivering high-quality outcomes through strong iteration and clear documentation of your solutions. You identify opportunities to improve the team’s process and propose practical improvements, partnering with peers to implement changes. When requirements are ambiguous or incomplete, you ask for senior guidance to clarify constraints and scope, then iterate on defined requirements to meet user and business needs. Your influence shapes short-term team goals, helping the team deliver on near-term priorities while maintaining a strong user experience.

Communication

Collaboration Technical skills Drive Effective team communication that supports clear collaboration and timely delivery. Actively participate in all scrum ceremonies (planning, standups, reviews, retrospectives) and contribute to transparent progress updates. Build strong relationships with immediate team members (design, engineering, product) and key business stakeholders to ensure shared understanding and trust. Lead UX workshops to align the team on design decisions, trade-offs, and next steps, and document outcomes so everyone is on the same page.

Collaboration

Lead design as a sole contributor or as part of a team, adapting your approach to the project’s needs. Bring the product team into your design process early and often—aligning stakeholders, sharing context, and making decisions collaboratively. Give and receive feedback constructively: clarify goals, share rationale, and iterate quickly with clear next steps. Contribute to the design team’s overall ways of working by sharing learnings, offering support, and improving how the team delivers.

Technical Skills

You have solid understanding of design patterns in your product, the human behaviours and technical constraints behind them. You have a solid understanding of design systems, how to use them and the technical constraints. You use an existing DS and can expand on it with the support of another team member. You have the ability to create a new DS that can be shared with your team members. You work closely with engineering to implement design patterns into the DS and create the supporting documentation. You have the ability of creating prototypes for complex flows.

Drive

Your focus is on improving your technical skills and a complete understanding of the UX methodologies and tools. Your are autonomous in organizing your workload. You actively participate in your design team to improve ways of working, offer support or exchange ideas. You are a mentee to members in your UX team.
