About the Employer:

The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) was founded in 2011 and is an operational arm of the Department of the Justice, Home Affairs and Migration. The NCSC is responsible for advising and informing Government IT and Critical National Infrastructure providers of current threats and vulnerabilities associated with network information security.

The main roles of the NCSC are to lead in the management of major cyber security incidents across government, provide guidance and advice to citizens and businesses on major cyber security incidents, and develop strong international relationships in the global cyber security community for the purposes of information sharing. In the period since 2011, the unit has focused its efforts on building capacity and establishing a stable base for its operational work.

The NCSC encompasses the State's National/Governmental Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT-IE). CSIRT-IE is an internationally accredited response team with its main function being the enhancement of situational awareness for constituents and for the provision of incident response for national cyber security incidents. CSIRT-IE has initially focused on the State sector and acts as a national point of contact for all cyber security matters concerning Ireland.

The NCSC now has vacancies for Cyber Security Specialists Operations and Resilience/Compliance.


About the Roles:

Role 1 – Cyber Security Specialist (Operations)


Reporting to the relevant Principal Cyber Security Specialist (Principal Officer), the Cyber Security Specialist (Operations) will work for a team in one of the following areas: cyber security incident response, cyber threat intelligence collection and malware and forensic analysis.

The main areas of involvement for a Cyber Security Specialist (Operations) include:

  • Operating, sustaining and developing the NCSC’s cyber security monitoring, malware and forensic analysis functions and associated threat intelligence platforms;
  • Preparing for, responding to and investigating national cyber security incidents and contributing to national strategy and planning in respect of national cyber security response;
  • Collecting, analysing and distributing cyber threat intelligence (CTI);
  • Planning and project management of technical projects and technical report writing;
  • Co-ordinating national, EU and international activities, including cyber exercises;
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with national, EU and international peers and stakeholders;
  • Actively participating in cyber security working groups, both nationally and internationally, to support information sharing and best practice;
  • Managing individual and team performance and development in the relevant Directorate.


Role 2 – Cyber Security Specialist (Resilience/Compliance)


Reporting to the relevant Principal Cyber Security Specialist (Principal Officer), the Cyber Security Specialist (Resilience/Compliance) will work for a team in one of the following areas: engagement, critical infrastructure protection, strategic threat analysis, compliance, capacity building, certification, corporate governance and project management.

The main areas of involvement for a Cyber Security Specialist (Resilience/Compliance) may include:

  • Implementing National and EU cyber security policy in Ireland, including NIS2 Directive, EU Cyber Security Act, EU cyber resilience, risk management, certification, telecoms security, information sharing and supply chain security;
  • Assisting in the development of systems, processes and legislation for the implementation of Cyber Security Policy in Ireland, including certification, resilience building, information sharing and compliance with EU and national requirements;
  • Co-ordinating national, EU and international activities, including cyber exercises;
  • Actively participating in cyber security working groups, both nationally and internationally, to develop guidelines, best practice and new legislation;
  • Managing individual and team performance and development in the relevant Directorate;
  • Assessing compliance with the security measures required of those entities qualifying under the NIS2 Directive, facilitating audits and implementing enforcement measures and penalties where appropriate;
  • Engaging externally on cybersecurity awareness raising activities with a broad range of stakeholders across Government, academia and industry, including critical infrastructure;
  • Conducting evidence and data-based risk assessment of strategic level threats & advising senior decision makers on appropriate responses;
  • Engaging with National and European cybersecurity certification schemes;
  • Assisting in the development of the National Cybersecurity Coordination and Development Centre, Ireland (NCC-IE) involving industry engagement and outreach, formulation of research, innovation and deployment priorities at the national level and interaction at EU level.


About You:

Role 1 – Cyber Security Specialist (Operations)


Candidates must have on or before 25th June 2026:

  1. A qualification at minimum Level 7 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) (or NARIC Ireland Foreign Qualifications equivalent) in Cyber Security, Computer Science or a related relevant discipline;
  2. At least 3 years’ recent (in the last 5 years) relevant experience* of working in Cyber Security or Information Technology;
  3. A comprehensive knowledge of developments in ICT security including but not limited to Cyber Security Incident response, Cyber threat intelligence (CTI), Digital Forensics, Network Investigations, malware analysis and open source intelligence (OSINT);
  4. A proven ability to troubleshoot technical issues and mitigate risks at a senior level;
  5. A proven track record of achieving results and an ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders to deliver common objectives;
  6. The ability to lead, manage and develop a team;
  7. Excellent motivational skills and commitment to meeting deadlines and delivering high quality customer service;
  8. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write technical reports and present information in clear and concise language to both technical and non-technical stakeholders;
  9. Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven capacity to effectively engage, collaborate and foster positive working relationships with both colleagues and external stakeholders;
  10. A demonstrated commitment to Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and Innovation.


Role 2 – Cyber Security Specialist (Resilience/Compliance)


Candidates must have on or before 25th June 2026:

  1. A qualification at minimum Level 7 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) (or NARIC Ireland Foreign Qualifications equivalent) in a relevant discipline.

  3. Recent experience (in the last 5 years’) in developing and implementing policies, strategies and/or managing complex projects in cyber, risk or related areas.
  4. A proven track record of achieving results and an ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders to deliver common objectives;
  5. The ability to lead, manage and develop a team;
  6. Excellent motivational skills and commitment to meeting deadlines and delivering high quality customer service;
  7. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write technical reports and present information in clear and concise language to both technical and non-technical stakeholders;
  8. Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven capacity to effectively engage, collaborate and foster positive working relationships with both colleagues and external stakeholders;
