Google's network provides services to millions of Internet users around the world. Our metros are on the edge of our network where Google connects to its users. The Network Team is responsible for operating that network reliably and at scale. Our team owns the full life cycle of all space, power, and network assets in all of Google’s data centers and metro points of presence globally. From the foundation, we are involved from site acquisition to construction and are accountable for what space and power is delivered. We're involved in every facet of network delivery from architecture and design to installation, configuration, activation, and commissioning.
Responsibilities
- Bachelor's degree in Network Engineering or Telecom Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 2 years of experience in carrier-class environments, and with Layer 1 physical infrastructure (e.g., DWDM, AC/DC power, OSP/ISP) and Layer 2/3 networking (TCP/IP, routing).
- Experience with field deployments alongside third-party vendors and data technicians, ensuring installation quality and resolving on-site technical issues.
- Experience with interpreting and validating deployment packages including orders and construction specification to verify design accuracy, and escalating discrepancies to engineering partners before installation.
- Experience identifying recurring errors in deployment packages or specifications and driving feedback loops to improve design accuracy and operational efficiency.
- Familiarity with network troubleshooting and testing tools, and with network automation tools, scripting, or SQL to query databases and track deployment consistency, with experience in Linux (e.g., run commands, move directories).
- Proven ability to lead technical projects and coordinate with third-party vendors and field technicians to ensure deployment timelines are met.
