Position Overview


The Lifting/Rigging Engineer is responsible for designing, reviewing, and supervising lifting operations to ensure safety, efficiency, and compliance with project and regulatory standards, including preparation of lifting plans, equipment selection, technical calculations, and site execution support.


Key Responsibilities


  • Develop and review detailed lifting and rigging plans, method statements, and risk assessments.
  • Evaluate lifting requirements for cranes, hoists, and rigging based on load, geometry, and site constraints.
  • Select, verify, and ensure certification/inspection status of lifting equipment and accessories.
  • Provide on-site technical support for critical and complex lifts.
  • Coordinate with construction, HSE, and project teams to ensure compliance with procedures.
  • Perform lifting studies, load calculations, and crane capacity checks using engineering software.
  • Prepare lifting drawings, calculations, and sketches for client and authority approvals.
  • Support training and competency verification of rigging crews and operators.
  • Lead/assist incident and near-miss investigations; implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain lifting plans, registers, inspection records, and as-built documentation.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 10+ years’ experience in lifting/rigging engineering in oil & gas, construction, or heavy industry.
  • Strong knowledge of Qatar Energy standards/codes and RLIC regulations and guidelines
  • Experienced in working in Oil & Gas brown field projects
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar; lifting analysis tools preferred.
  • Recognized certifications preferred.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.

  • HSE leadership and risk management.
  • Stakeholder coordination and documentation control.


Reporting Line


  • Reports to: Construction Manager.
  • Supervises: Rigging Supervisors and Lifting Coordinators.


Working Conditions


  • Site-based with office coordination; extended hours/shifts possible during critical lifts.


Location and Employment Type


  • Location: Project/site-based as assigned.
  • Employment: Short time
