Principal Researcher – AI Trustworthiness / AI Safety / Agentic AI / LLMs / VLMs
We are looking for a Principal Researcher to join a world leading technology company at their R&D Lab in Helsinki.
You are a distinguished technical leader to lead the creation of dependable, high-efficiency, and secure artificial intelligence systems. This role is central to advancing the frontier of "Safe Agentic AI" and developing sophisticated detection mechanisms for next-generation generative services. You will be responsible for defining the strategic direction of our safety research and ensuring our models are both highly competitive and fundamentally trustworthy.
As a Principal Researcher your responsibilities will include:
- Strategic Research Leadership: Direct the conceptualization and implementation of reliable, high-performance detection technologies and secure autonomous AI frameworks.
- Safety Strategy: Help shape a comprehensive long-term plan for digital safety, focusing on enhancing AI-driven classification and the protection of complex generative systems.
- Architectural Oversight: Architect and scrutinize system designs to ensure they remain at the cutting edge of the industry while adhering to strict safety protocols.
- Collaborative Innovation: Conduct practical, experimental research alongside internal teams and forge deep partnerships with academic institutions.
- Expert Consulting: Deliver high-level technical perspectives and research initiatives to move the needle on current state-of-the-art developments.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain active lines of communication with both internal leadership and the broader global research community.
As a Principal Researcher your skills will include:
- PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Mathematics, or a relevant field.
- 8+ years of dedicated research experience at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity, with a demonstrated focus on Trust and Safety.
- History of successfully architecting and deploying large-scale, high-performance models (LLMs/VLMs) and multi-step reasoning agents.
- Deep practical experience in synchronizing AI behaviour with human values using techniques like RLHF, neural editing, adversarial training, and game theory.
- Familiarity with implementing technical solutions that meet the standards of the EU AI Act, GDPR, and the Digital Services Act.
- Specialized experience in identifying abuse, detecting deep fakes, and ensuring model fairness and transparency.
- Ability to distil highly abstract technical concepts into clear strategies for stakeholders at every level of an organization.
- Outstanding publication history in premier venues such as CVPR, ACL, AAAI, or EMNLP.
- Proactive approach to problem-solving and a desire to challenge existing industry standards within a diverse, international team.
Feel free to also refer someone you may know who could be good for the role. If they are successfully placed, we offer a great referral scheme!
