Job Description:

Key Accountabilities

• Develop, deliver, and operate research computing services and applications using Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles, including end-to-end development, deployment, monitoring, and incident response.
• Resolve complex technical issues in SCP applications, services, and user workflows.
• Provide expert research software engineering support to debug, optimize, and scale user applications and pipelines.

Essential Requirements

• Scientific degree or equivalent experience in computationally intensive scientific data analysis.
• Proven HPC experience at scale (10,000+ cores), including installation, optimization, and configuration of scientific applications.
• Proficiency with HPC job schedulers (e.g., SLURM) in Linux environments.
• Expertise in multiple languages (Python, R, Shell, C/C++, Golang), with deep mastery in at least one.
• Strong grasp of HPC performance factors, parallel programming (MPI, pthreads, OpenMP), code profiling/optimization, and high-performance filesystems (e.g., GPFS, Lustre at petabyte scale).
• Hands-on with scientific/HPC apps (e.g., simulation, bioinformatics, 3D visualization), build frameworks (Easybuild, Spack), GPU AI/ML tools (CUDA, TensorFlow, PyTorch), workflow engines (Apache Airflow, Nextflow, Cromwell, AWS Step Functions), and containers (Docker, Singularity, Enroot).
• Domain knowledge in early drug development (deep learning, medical imaging, molecular dynamics, omics).
• Experience with HPC regression testing/benchmarks (e.g., Reframe) and GxP-validated environments.
• Customer-oriented communicator who translates complex IT concepts for non-experts.

Desirable Experience

• Administering/optimizing HPC schedulers (e.g., SLURM).
• Infrastructure automation and IaC (Ansible, Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, CDK).
• Public cloud deployments, especially AWS.
• DevOps/agile team experience.
