GTS Space is working with a company developing spacecraft payloads for orbital life sciences research, based in Luxembourg. As they scale their engineering team, they are looking for an Embedded Software Engineer who is comfortable working close to the metal and motivated by the challenge of building software that has to work first time, every time.
What you will be doing:
- Designing, implementing, and maintaining low-level embedded software for flight payloads and associated ground systems
- Developing, integrating, and debugging device drivers and board support packages for custom hardware
- Working with real-time operating systems to deliver deterministic, reliable control and data handling
- Implementing and validating communication stacks built on UART, SPI, PCI, USB, and CAN
- Contributing to the design, implementation, and optimisation of network stacks from physical and link layers through to application-level protocols
- Working closely with electronics, systems, and science teams to define interfaces and maintain end-to-end system reliability
- Taking part in code reviews, requirements discussions, and producing documentation for both flight and ground software
Where you bring project management experience, there is scope to take on additional responsibilities -- coordinating small cross-functional workstreams, tracking milestones and deliverables, and contributing to development process improvements and release planning.
What you will need:
- Five to ten years of demonstrable experience developing low-level software and embedded systems in C++
- A thorough understanding of embedded systems, low-level drivers, and signal processing
- Hands-on experience developing for real-time operating systems
- Practical experience with communication protocols including UART, SPI, PCI, USB, and CAN
- A solid understanding of network stacks across all layers, from low-level transport through to higher-level application protocols
Advantageous but not essential:
- Experience with software quality practices for embedded targets -- unit testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines
- A background in space software development, including ECSS standards, radiation effects, fault tolerance, or flight software constraints
- Exposure to software project management in an Agile, Scrum, or Kanban environment, including milestone tracking, risk management, and supplier coordination
