Position: Senior Backend Developer
Location: North York, ON - Hybrid
Salary: $120,000 - $130,000 CAD

Our client is building the next generation of intelligent energy management solutions - combining real-time energy data, AI-powered insights, and scalable backend systems to help consumers better understand and optimize their energy consumption.

They are looking for a Senior Backend Developer to lead backend architecture and help drive the evolution of their AI-powered platform. This is a high-impact opportunity to work at the intersection of AI, data, sustainability, IoT, and modern cloud infrastructure within a lean, fast-moving engineering environment.

You'll play a critical role in designing scalable backend systems, integrating AI-driven capabilities, and helping shape the technical direction of the platform.

What You'll Be Doing:

Backend Architecture & Development
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs
- Lead backend architecture and technical decision-making
- Build reliable, maintainable systems that support rapid product growth
- Improve performance, scalability, and system reliability across the platform
- Collaborate closely with frontend developers and product stakeholders

AI & LLM Integration
- Build and integrate AI-powered product features using LLMs
- Develop systems that generate intelligent customer insights from energy consumption and billing data
- Support AI-driven workflows and insight generation across the platform
- Evaluate and implement practical AI use cases within production environments

Technical Leadership
- Help establish backend engineering standards and best practices
- Contribute to code reviews, architectural planning, and technical strategy
- Operate with strong ownership and accountability in a startup-style environment
- Support fast development cycles and continuous product iteration

DevOps & Cloud Infrastructure (Light Component)
- Assist with AWS infrastructure and deployment workflows
- Support CI/CD pipelines and environment management
- Help maintain operational stability and deployment processes
- Contribute to cloud and DevOps tasks as needed (less than 10% of the role)

- Golang (preferred)

What We're Looking For:

Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of backend development experience
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and backend architecture experience
- Hands-on experience with Golang or similar modern backend languages, API development and distributed systems, Cloud platforms (AWS)
- Experience working with AI/LLMs in production or applied environments
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work independently in a lean, fast-paced environment

Preferred Experience
- Experience building AI-powered or data-driven applications
- Exposure to energy tech, fintech, SaaS, or IoT environments
- Experience with scalable cloud infrastructure and deployment workflows
- Familiarity with containerized environments and CI/CD pipelines
- Startup or high-growth company experience
