We are partnering with a major Canadian financial institution—one of the Big 5—to find a Frontend Engineer who can lead the charge on their modern web architecture. This isn't a "maintenance" role; my client is currently scaling high-traffic, public-facing digital experiences that serve millions of Canadians. They are moving away from legacy patterns and leaning heavily into Next.js to drive performance, SEO, and a premier user experience.
The team is based in downtown Toronto, operating in a hybrid model that balances deep focus time with the collaborative energy of a high-velocity engineering lab.
The Mission
You will be building secure, accessible, and highly performant web interfaces. This role is front-end led but requires a deep understanding of the full software lifecycle within a regulated environment. You won't just be pushing pixels; you’ll be architecting how data flows from complex backend services into modern React components, ensuring every interaction is seamless and every page load is optimized.
What You’ll Bring to the Team
- Next.js Mastery: You’ve spent the last several years shipping complex applications in production. You know the nuances of Server-Side Rendering (SSR) versus Static Site Generation (SSG) and when to use each to win on Core Web Vitals.
- Architectural Mindset: You enjoy designing reusable component libraries and enterprise-grade UI frameworks. You think in terms of scalability and long-term maintainability.
- Accessibility First: You understand that for a bank of this scale, AODA compliance is a fundamental engineering requirement, not an afterthought.
- Technical Rigor: You treat TypeScript, unit testing, and peer reviews as non-negotiables. You’re comfortable navigating CI/CD pipelines and integrating with both REST and GraphQL APIs.
- Financial District Fluency: You thrive in an environment where engineering excellence meets strict security and governance standards. You know how to get things done within a large-scale, Agile organization.
Why This Role?
This is an opportunity to have a measurable impact on the digital tools Canadians use every day. You’ll be working alongside some of the sharpest engineers in the city, tackling the unique challenges of scaling modern frontend frameworks within a massive, regulated infrastructure.
If you’ve spent your career building high-traffic apps and are ready to take on a lead-level role at a cornerstone of the Canadian economy, let's talk.
