The Opportunity

We are looking for an AI Software Engineer to join a foundational, high-trust AI team within one of Australia's leading law firms. This is a hands-on role where you will design and deliver AI-native applications that directly transform how the firm operates, replacing legacy workflows with production-grade AI solutions.

You will be part of a small but growing team, focused on craftsmanship, curiosity, and measurable value.

The Tech Stack & Workflow

You will leverage modern tools and rigorous engineering standards across the full software lifecycle:

  • Languages & Frameworks: Node.js, TypeScript, React, and TailwindCSS.
  • Cloud & Infrastructure: Azure Container Apps, Azure networking, and identity management.
  • AI Integration: Building Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers and integrating with hosted/cloud-based AI models for RAG, orchestration, and evaluation.
  • Development Tools: Deep use of VSCode and AI coding assistants like GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, and OpenAI Codex to accelerate delivery.
  • CI/CD & Quality: GitHub-based pipelines, automated testing (unit, integration, and end-to-end with Playwright), and dependency scanning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build & Deploy: Develop AI-native applications as containerized workloads on Azure.
  • Connect Systems: Design robust APIs to connect core legal platforms (PMS, DMS, CRM) to AI systems.
  • Secure Engineering: Apply secure coding practices aligned with the ACSC Essential Eight and ISO 42001 AI management standards.
  • Collaborate: Participate in architectural decisions, code reviews, and peer mentoring to foster a culture of engineering excellence.
  • Maintain: Produce clear technical documentation, runbooks, and architectural decision records.

What You Bring

  • Technical Expertise: Proven experience building production applications with Node.js, TypeScript, and React.
  • AI Fluency: Hands-on experience using AI assistants in your daily workflow and familiarity with tool-calling frameworks like MCP.
  • DevOps Mindset: Experience owning GitHub-based CI/CD pipelines and operating workloads on Azure.
  • Testing Discipline: A strong commitment to automated testing, including browser automation via Playwright.
  • Security Focus: Knowledge of OAuth 2.x, secrets management, and the ethical/safety considerations of AI in regulated environments.

Why This Role?

You will be at the forefront of the AI shift in professional services, working in an environment that values innovation and authenticity. This is a foundational role where your contributions will shape the firm's AI trajectory for years to come.

Requirements:
