This role also sits within a wider venture-backed environment, where successful AI and automation solutions could later be adapted and rolled out across other companies from the same investment portfolio.

The role

We’re looking for a highly experienced Lead AI / Machine Learning Engineer to help build AI-driven appraisal and automation capabilities across the business.

This is a senior hands-on role for someone who has built real AI/ML products in production, not just prototypes. You’ll be working on complex, real-world problems involving item recognition, valuation, automation and customer journey improvements.

Beyond this core platform, there is also the opportunity to help shape AI automation patterns that can be implemented across other high-growth businesses within the same venture ecosystem.

What you’ll be doing

• Leading the development of AI/ML systems that support item appraisal and valuation
• Building models and pipelines using image, product, pricing and operational data
• Creating scalable automation tools that improve speed, accuracy and customer experience
• Taking ownership from exploration and prototyping through to production deployment
• Working closely with product, operations and technical stakeholders
• Helping shape the wider AI and automation strategy across the business and broader portfolio
• Advising on what should be automated, where AI adds value, and how to build this properly
• Identifying opportunities to adapt successful AI solutions across other venture-backed companies

What they’re looking for

• Strong experience as a Senior / Lead ML Engineer, AI Engineer, Applied Scientist or similar
• Proven experience building AI/ML products from idea to production
• Strong Python engineering skills
• Experience with computer vision, image recognition, multimodal AI, pricing models or classification systems
• Good understanding of production-grade ML infrastructure and deployment
• Comfortable working with messy, real-world data
• Strong product mindset and commercial awareness
• Able to take ownership of ambiguous technical challenges
• Experience in e-commerce, marketplaces, recommerce, retail, pricing or valuation would be a strong bonus
