About the role
As a Senior DevOps Engineer – Platform Enablement, you will help design, build, and evolve a standardized engineering platform used by multiple product teams across a large, complex technology environment.
You will work on shared CI/CD templates, developer tooling, cloud-native deployment patterns, and automation frameworks that enable teams to build, test, deploy, and operate services independently, safely, and consistently.
This is a hands-on engineering role with a strong focus on collaboration and enablement. The goal is to improve how teams deliver software without turning the platform function into a ticket-driven support team. You will help create scalable, reusable solutions that reduce manual work, improve delivery confidence, and support modern DevOps and GitOps practices.
The role sits within an enterprise data and technology domain focused on building frameworks, automation, and infrastructure for data product development and AI-enabled consumption of information. The environment is fully onshore, ambitious, and innovation-driven, with a strong focus on automation, data platforms, and modern engineering practices.
Key responsibilities
- Build, maintain, and improve reusable Azure DevOps pipeline templates and supporting tooling used by multiple engineering teams.
- Develop shared frameworks, libraries, and platform components with a product mindset, including versioning, backward compatibility, documentation, and support models.
- Enable self-service delivery by making common engineering workflows easy, secure, repeatable, and reliable.
- Reduce manual steps and duplicated work across teams through automation and standardization.
- Improve release confidence and feedback speed by embedding automated checks early in the delivery lifecycle, including quality, security, compliance, and operational readiness.
- Support adoption of containerized deployment patterns by providing sensible defaults, reference implementations, examples, and reusable templates.
- Help define clear ownership and responsibility boundaries between platform teams and consuming product teams.
- Promote autonomous product ownership while ensuring teams follow consistent engineering and operational standards.
- Drive operational excellence through standardized observability, reliability practices, incident learnings, and continuous improvement.
- Apply modern DevOps, GitOps, and cloud-native engineering practices across multiple teams.
- Use modern developer tooling, including AI-assisted tools where appropriate, while maintaining strong standards for security, traceability, governance, and code review.
Required experience and skills
- Strong experience designing, implementing, and operating CI/CD solutions in Azure DevOps at scale.
- Hands-on experience with reusable pipeline templates, shared delivery patterns, performance optimization, and reliability improvements.
- Strong software engineering skills and confidence working directly with code.
- Practical production experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and container orchestration.
- Experience improving developer experience through automation, standardization, documentation, and reusable tooling.
- Good understanding of modern DevOps and GitOps practices.
- Ability to influence, align, and collaborate across multiple teams without relying on heavy process or excessive governance.
- Experience working in regulated, complex, or enterprise-scale environments where auditability, security, and risk controls are important.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to translate platform capabilities into practical guidance for engineering teams.
Success in this role looks like
- Product teams can ship changes with minimal friction using standardized templates, tools, and workflows.
- Platform components evolve safely without unexpectedly breaking consuming teams.
- Engineering teams experience reduced cognitive load and improved delivery reliability.
- Common delivery, deployment, observability, and operational patterns are consistent across teams.
- Automation reduces repeated work and improves speed, quality, and compliance.
- Product teams remain autonomous owners of their services while benefiting from strong platform enablement.
- The platform function is seen as a strategic enabler rather than a ticket queue.
Ideal candidate profile
The ideal candidate is a senior, hands-on DevOps engineer with strong Azure DevOps experience and a platform engineering mindset. They are comfortable building reusable solutions for multiple teams, improving developer experience, and working in complex enterprise environments where security, auditability, and reliability matter.
They combine strong technical depth with the ability to influence, coach, and enable teams. They understand that good platform engineering is not just about tools, but about creating clear standards, reusable patterns, and self-service capabilities that help product teams move faster with confidence.
