How do you make our customers happy?

With 13 million customers, 129 million monthly visits and about 37 million products on display, bol is the most successful online retail platform in The Netherlands and Belgium.

When we say ‘platform’, we mean it. Well over 47,000 external partners – and counting – enrich the product base.

Data informed and adventurous (making mistakes is no biggie, if learnings are shared), we intend to deliver on our promise to make life easier and more fun for customers and that is exactly what our tech 900+ professionals do.

What You’ll Do

As a Young Professional, you’ll be assigned to one of our autonomous Product teams in the role of a software engineer within tech.

Each team is responsible for an individual aspect of our platform and helping to provide solutions for all our customers from consumers buying products to Partners and Suppliers.

There you will further develop and improve your team’s specific application and services.

The pace is fast, so your actions will have an immediate impact on your customers both internally at bol (other Engineering and Operations teams) and externally (Consumers, Partners, Suppliers).

Engineering is changing as is the e-commerce industry because of AI. Bol is embracing the potential and use of AI, ML and Data. Every team is defining how they work with the new tools and how it can help in creating innovative solutions for our customers.

After your first year, you will switch to a different team to maximize the learning experience. This gives you the unique opportunity to maximise your experience whilst being part of the program.

The program gives you a unique opportunity to build software using your skills and creativity.

You will quickly discover how to build solutions using modern tooling, while fixing real production problems.

Together with your colleagues – people that share technological insights, ambitions and challenges continuously – you are a driver of change.

You are allowed to make mistakes if you learn from them and in the changing tech landscape you will have plenty of space to experiment.

We love technology and we love our work, but we’re not infallible. In our world, we take risks, move fast and learn quickly.

You build it, you run it, you love it.

A focus on personal development

And the fun doesn’t stop there!

The Young Professional Tech Program really wants to give you the best learning opportunities. That is why you will be working with your team for 4 days a week, and the remaining 1 day (usually a Friday) will be spent on personal development.

Next to the mandatory personal development track that you will participate in you will also work on a YP Project with fellow YP’s that focuses on Learning, Research and Innovation.

You can complete online training or be part of one of the community blocks to help the program grow.

Next to that this program offers a community of Young Professional peers to learn from and with each other.

You’re more than welcome to join in the various Young Professional activities the community organizes.

Finally, we believe that by joining this program you have potential to become our future tech leader. That’s why you will get training on hard skills which suit your role and passion, but also on soft skills that will help unlocking your potential.

No matter the space you’ll join, your tech stack may include:

  • Java/ Kotlin
  • Google Cloud Platform
  • Kubernetes/Docker
  • SQL/BigQuery
  • Rest/GraphQL/Events

3 reasons why this is (not) for you Switch to find out

  • - Because you’re done learning Because you know just about everything already; you’re done learning!
  • - Because you won’t set foot in our games room Because you won’t (ever!) set foot in our games room or on our soccer field
  • - Alternative: Because sharing knowledge is not for you Because you don’t believe in sharing knowledge with your peers and/or in online communities.
  • + Because you’re a recent graduate and you’re not done learning Because you have a relevant bachelor's or master's degree (Computer Science, Software Engineering, etc.) with up to 1-year professional working experience
  • + Because you believe in teamwork Because you are a true team player who can work in sync with the business
  • + Because you’re a curious coder Because you’re always questioning the bigger picture. Why do things work the way they do, or why do we take certain decisions? You are always curious and dare to speak up/ ask questions.

We take pride in our B Corp certification and strive for continuous improvement every day. Our annual bonus is tied to sustainability goals, and we are committed to equality and equal opportunities for all.
