We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our growing technology team. This is an exciting opportunity to become a member of the 8x8 engineering team that is involved in the entire life cycle of development, from the browser to the database.

You will be part of the team that owns high performance, mission critical services, from design to development, deployment and operation at scale.

Get the chance to work in a microservices architecture, add new features, solve day-to-day problems and contribute to system wide technical improvements. All this in an agile run project that is continuously deployed in Kubernetes clusters hosted in AWS.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement web application functionalities using Java as the main language
• Contribute in all phases of the development lifecycle
• Understand, interpret and clarify functional requirements as well as technical requirements for the project;
• Work together with product and development teams to define software specifications;
• Collaborate and lead architecture and design decisions driving platform direction;
• Implement and maintain back-end functionality supporting front-end services and applications.
• Code with Performance, Scalability, Reliability, Extensibility, Observability and Security in mind.
• Research, design and develop Proofs of Concept to solve product requirements
• Prepare and release new versions of services
• Diagnose and address issues involving complex system interdependencies, scale, unfamiliar codebases, or unexpected datasets
• Contribute and provide value to multiple products and services.
• Promote and drive innovation, quality and performance initiatives within the team and throughout 8x8.
• Mentor and educate engineers on best practices and new technologies.
• Adhere to high-quality standards through unit testing and automation

Qualifications

• Proven skills and Hands-on programming experience in Java, preferably leveraging Spring Framework
• Strong knowledge of Distributed Systems design patterns
• Excellent development experience with Java REST web services
• Good knowledge of advanced Java topics (multithreading, asynchronous APIs, annotation processing, memory management)
• Proficiency in Database technologies (SQL and NoSQL)
• Good knowledge of NFR-s analysis and implementation
• Exposure to AWS (or other Public Cloud)
• Exposure to containerization technologies and Kubernetes
• Experience with test automation at the unit and integration levels.
• Product mindset and Customer oriented
• Excellent problem solving skills and ability to work independently and with others
• Coach and mentor your team
• Be the example of a team player who works productively with stakeholders to achieve the business objectives of your team.
