We’re partnering with a market-leading Australian technology company powering critical alarm signalling and IoT connectivity across Australia and internationally.

Their platforms support over 300,000 connected devices and tens of thousands of active users. Reliability, uptime and real-world impact genuinely matter here.

They’re hiring a Senior Software Engineering Manager to lead and develop their Sydney-based engineering team. This is a senior leadership role focused on delivery, team performance, and building high-quality, customer-facing software across web, mobile, and backend systems.

This is about driving accountability, improving engineering standards, and delivering production-grade systems at scale.

What you’ll work on:

Engineering leadership & delivery

• Lead a team of engineers across backend, frontend, mobile and integrations
• Own delivery outcomes across SaaS platforms, APIs and mobile applications
• Drive planning, execution and accountability across quarterly commitments

Building high-performing teams

• Hire, mentor and develop engineers
• Lift team capability, performance and engagement
• Create a culture of ownership, urgency and continuous improvement

Technical oversight

• Contribute to architectural and technical decisions
• Maintain high standards across code quality, testing and documentation
• Stay hands-on where needed to remain credible and effective

Customer-focused product delivery

• Work closely with Product to deliver impactful features
• Balance short-term delivery with long-term platform health
• Ensure systems are reliable, scalable and secure

Operational excellence

• Improve engineering metrics (deployment frequency, reliability, MTTR)
• Support incident management and continuous improvement
• Drive better planning, visibility and delivery confidence

Immediate priority: bring structure, urgency and leadership to an already capable team - improving delivery, alignment and overall engineering effectiveness.

What we’re looking for:

Must-haves

• Proven experience leading software engineering teams
• Strong background in backend or full-stack engineering
• Experience delivering production SaaS or customer-facing platforms
• Ability to drive accountability and improve team performance
• Hands-on technical capability (able to contribute and challenge decisions)
• Strong stakeholder communication and leadership skills

Nice to have

• Experience with node.js and/or React
• Exposure to mobile engineering (iOS/Android)
• Background in high-availability or mission-critical systems
• Experience working in IoT, telco, or infrastructure-led environments
