Software Engineer II (Backend / Platform) – AI-Driven Environment

Amsterdam (Hybrid 3 days onsite 2 days work from home)

40 hours per week | On-call rotation required

About the Role

We’re hiring a Software Engineer II to join a high-impact engineering team working on scalable applications and platform services in a modern, data-driven environment.

This role sits at the intersection of backend engineering, system reliability, and platform development, with exposure to AI-powered products and workflows. You’ll be responsible for building robust systems, improving performance, and ensuring production excellence.

What You’ll Do

Build & Deliver High-Quality Software

• Write clean, maintainable, and reusable code
• Apply standard design patterns and engineering best practices
• Continuously refactor and improve existing systems
• Ensure quality through automated testing

Own Systems End-to-End

• Monitor system health, performance, and reliability
• Manage deployments using CI/CD pipelines
• Reduce risks through documentation (runbooks, operational guides)

Handle Production & Incidents

• Troubleshoot and resolve live production issues
• Perform root cause analysis and contribute to postmortems
• Improve system resilience and uptime

Contribute to Design & Architecture

• Evaluate technical solutions based on business needs and scalability
• Collaborate on system design and architecture decisions
• Prototype and validate new ideas (spikes/POCs)

Collaborate & Improve

• Work closely with engineers, product owners, and stakeholders
• Identify performance improvements and optimize workflows
• Support and guide less experienced engineers

What We’re Looking For

Core Experience

• 3–5 years of experience in software engineering
• Strong backend development experience
• Experience building and maintaining scalable applications

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in one or more backend languages (e.g. Java, Python)
• Experience with modern software development practices
• Familiarity with system design, APIs, and distributed systems
• Exposure to CI/CD, testing frameworks, and monitoring tools

Additional Strengths

• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
• Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Understanding of incident management and production systems
• Ability to evaluate trade-offs and make pragmatic technical decisions
