Backend Developer (Python) – Helsinki

The Opportunity

Our client is hiring a Backend Developer to join their Helsinki-based team and contribute to the development of a modern SaaS product used by customers at scale.

This role is ideal for a backend-focused engineer who enjoys working on cloud-native systems, building reliable services, and collaborating closely with product and frontend teams. The successful candidate will play an important role in shaping backend functionality and ensuring the platform remains scalable, secure, and performant.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Python
• Build and integrate APIs and services that support a growing SaaS platform
• Work in a Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environment to deploy and operate backend systems
• Collaborate with frontend and platform teams, including services built with Node.js
• Contribute to architectural discussions and technical decision-making
• Ensure high standards around code quality, testing, performance, and reliability
• Support continuous improvement of development practices and tooling

Required Experience & Skills

• Strong commercial experience as a backend developer working with Python
• Experience building and maintaining backend services for SaaS products
• Hands-on experience with GCP or another major cloud platform
• Familiarity with Node.js, particularly in service-to-service or API integration contexts
• Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs
• Comfortable working in a collaborative, product-driven engineering environment

Nice to Have

• Experience with microservices or event-driven architectures
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and cloud-native deployment practices
• Understanding of scalability, monitoring, and production operations
• Experience working in agile or cross-functional teams
