Australia · Full-time · Not Applicable

An Australian R&D and manufacturing company developing advanced defence and industrial systems is expanding its team and is now hiring an Engineering Lead to support the delivery of complex, multidisciplinary products.

In this role, you will be responsible for leading the day-to-day activities of a team comprising software engineers and hardware/electronics engineers, ensuring alignment across disciplines and driving delivery from concept through to production. You will remain close to the technical detail while providing structure, direction, and oversight across embedded systems, electronic design, and system integration. The position offers the opportunity to work in a hands-on, fast paced environment where engineering leadership directly impacts product outcomes and real-world performance.

This is a full-time role based in Adelaide. For interstate candidates, relocation is required (relocation allowance will be provided).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day activities of a multidisciplinary engineering team across software and hardware domains.
  • Lead engineering delivery across the full product lifecycle, including design, prototyping, testing, and production.
  • Provide technical direction across embedded systems, electronics, and hardware-software integration.
  • Coordinate closely with leadership to align engineering efforts with product and business priorities.
  • Oversee system integration, verification, and validation activities in both lab and field environments.
  • Improve engineering processes, workflows, and development practices to increase team efficiency and quality.
  • Mentor and support engineers, fostering technical growth and collaboration across disciplines.
  • Contribute to system architecture decisions and ensure scalable, maintainable engineering solutions.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience leading or mentoring engineering teams in embedded systems, robotics, or electronics-focused environments.
  • Strong understanding of both software (embedded C/C++, Linux) and hardware/electronics development.
  • Experience working across full product lifecycles from R&D through to production.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage priorities and deliver outcomes in fast paced, hands-on engineering environments.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Desirable but not essential:

    • Experience in robotics, autonomous systems, or defence-related engineering environments.
    • Familiarity with real-time systems, control systems, or sensor integration.
    • Experience working in small to mid-sized teams with high levels of ownership and autonomy.
    • Exposure to field testing, ruggedised systems, or deployment in challenging environments.
