Freelance Senior Java BackEnd Software Engineer – Brussels

Location: Brussels (on-site)

We are looking for a Senior Java BackEnd Software Engineer to join a dynamic team providing technical support for a major financial application. Your main focus will be on analyzing, developing, testing, documenting, and supporting changes in this application, with a special emphasis on setting up CI/CD processes and managing associated code libraries.

Responsibilities:

• Set up and manage CI/CD processes for critical applications.
• Develop, test, and implement software changes in Java and scripting languages.
• Support and train users, both technically and functionally.
• Work in an agile team environment, ensuring quality, performance, and security.
• Troubleshoot, document, and maintain the application.

Essential Requirements (Must-Have Skills):

• Strong experience in Java SDK (object-oriented programming).
• Experience with Shell scripting and Linux environments.
• Experience with GitHub and Bitbucket for version control.
• Analytical mindset and curiosity about both users and processes.
• Excellent communication skills: fluent in English, knowledge of Dutch is a plus.
• Detail-oriented, stress-resistant, and willing to work in a support environment, including occasional weekends.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience with C++ (for legacy or performance-critical modules).
• Experience with SQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL).
• Experience with Murex or similar financial systems.
• Experience in agile development environments.
