Backend Developer – Freelance (Hybrid, Turin)

Contract: 6 months freelance, with the option to extend

Location: Turin, Hybrid (mainly on-site)

Daily Rate: €250/day

Start: ASAP / Flexible

About the Client:

You will be joining a leading organisation in the automotive and electric mobility sector, delivering innovative backend solutions for modern mobility services. The team is focused on building scalable, high-performance systems and operates within an Agile / DevOps culture, leveraging cloud technologies and microservices architecture.

This is a freelance engagement embedded in a collaborative, high-performing technical environment, with close interaction between development, DevOps, and product teams.

The Role:

We are looking for an experienced Backend Developer to design, develop, and maintain backend services using Java and Spring Boot. You will work on high-performance APIs, integrate messaging systems, and contribute to a cloud-native, containerised architecture.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, reliable, and secure backend services while maintaining high standards of code quality, testing, and documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services in Java / Spring Boot
• Implement secure and high-performing RESTful APIs
• Work with MongoDB (NoSQL) and Redis for caching and pub/sub
• Integrate messaging systems using Amazon SQS
• Containerise applications using Docker and collaborate on Kubernetes deployments
• Contribute to code quality through unit testing, code reviews, and documentation
• Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and continuous delivery processes

Required Experience:

• 5+ years of professional experience in Java backend development
• Strong expertise in Spring Boot and microservices architectures
• Good knowledge of MongoDB and Redis
• Experience with Docker and basic familiarity with Kubernetes
• Hands-on experience working in AWS environments (SQS, Lambda, S3, etc.)
• Ability to work autonomously with high precision
• Strong teamwork and communication skills
• Interest in automation and DevOps culture

Nice to Have:

• Experience in automotive, electric mobility, or related services
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI)
• Familiarity with Swagger / OpenAPI, Postman, Maven/Gradle
