Director of Engineering (6-Month FTC → Permanent)
We’re hiring a senior engineering leader to step into a high-accountability environment and stabilise delivery, reset ways of working, and scale a global delivery model. This is a hands-on leadership role (not IC coding), with direct ownership of execution, org health, and outcomes.
About the Role
- Take ownership of an underperforming engineering organisation and stabilise delivery quickly
- Lead multiple engineering teams and managers (40+ engineers)
- Drive offshore transition to India: scope decisions, knowledge transfer, quality controls, and change management
- Improve delivery predictability, reduce quality issues, and move initiatives to GA readiness
- Partner closely with Product to define priorities and ship roadmaps
- Operate effectively across Norway / India / global stakeholders under pressure
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and scale a multi-team software engineering organisation (40–100+ engineers globally)
- Manage managers and team leads, not just individual contributors
- Stabilise delivery, improve execution, and reset accountability where needed
- Partner closely with Product leadership to drive roadmap execution and innovation
- Review architecture, delivery practices, and quality to identify root causes of issues
- Lead change initiatives across structure, ways of working, and operating model
- Support the evolution of global delivery, including offshore or distributed teams
- Act as a visible, credible engineering leader across regional offices
- Bring a strong leadership presence during the early months, especially via travel to Norway (~2x/month)
- Operate effectively in a fast-paced, outcome-driven, private equity environment
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Experience leading 40+ software engineers (ideally multiple teams + managers)
- Worked in a PE/VC-owned company (comfortable with pace, urgency, ambiguity, accountability)
- Personally led a transition of engineering work to India (build/scale team, define what moves vs stays, run knowledge transfer, manage resistance + quality risk)
- Proven track record taking over underperforming teams and improving delivery/quality
- Strong technical credibility (can assess architecture/SDLC, diagnose root causes; not a “pure people leader”)
- Comfortable working with senior global stakeholders and delivering outcomes fast

Contract & Location
