The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Project Manager – Capital Delivery to join our client, a large acute healthcare organisation delivering a complex, multi‑year capital estates programme.

Working as part of a well‑established Capital Projects team, you will manage the delivery of a diverse portfolio of estates projects ranging from minor works and backlog maintenance to major capital schemes valued between £10m and £50m. These projects form part of a wider programme of £200m–£300m investment over the next five years.

This is a high‑profile role with significant exposure to senior stakeholders and plays a vital role in ensuring capital investment supports wider clinical and organisational transformation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end‑to‑end delivery of multiple estates capital projects across acute hospital environments, from business case development through to completion and handover
  • Support delivery of the wider Capital Investment Programme, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and to agreed quality standards
  • Apply robust programme and project management methodologies, including management of risk, issues, costs, quality and benefits
  • Lead and manage stakeholder engagement with clinical teams, senior managers, executives and external partners
  • Manage procurement and delivery strategies, including the appointment and management of consultants, contractors and external advisers, in line with public‑sector procurement regulations
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of capital policies, standards and governance frameworks
  • Ensure full compliance with health and safety legislation, statutory requirements and best practice in healthcare estates delivery
  • Support financial planning and monitoring, ensuring business cases are robust and aligned with organisational and system‑wide affordability
  • Contribute to long‑term estates and capital planning across the wider healthcare system

About You

You will be a highly capable estates or capital project professional with a proven track record of delivering complex infrastructure programmes in healthcare or similarly complex, regulated environments.

Essential:

  • Degree‑level qualification (or equivalent experience) in construction, estates, healthcare planning or the built environment
  • Substantial experience delivering complex capital projects or programmes
  • Strong knowledge of public‑sector construction procurement and delivery models (e.g. frameworks, partnering, PFI, P22)
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills
  • Experience managing external consultants and contractors

Desirable:

  • Project or programme management qualification (e.g. PRINCE2, MSP or equivalent)
  • Experience delivering healthcare estates or infrastructure projects
  • Confident user of project management and reporting tools (e.g. MS Project, Excel, SharePoint, CAD)

Why Apply?

This is a rare opportunity to work at significant scale on projects that directly enable clinical transformation and improved patient care. You will be part of a highly skilled capital delivery team, with the opportunity to influence major investment decisions and develop your career within a large, forward‑looking healthcare organisation.
