Network Operations Engineer | Dublin | IP Networks
I’m working with a global technology organisation that operates large-scale, mission-critical IP networks. They’re seeking an experienced Network Operations Engineer to join their Dublin team and take ownership of maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimising production network infrastructure.
This is a hands-on role focused on incident resolution, network reliability, and operational improvements in a live enterprise environment.
Key Responsibilities
Network Operations & Troubleshooting
- Maintain and support large-scale IP network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and WAN/LAN connections
- Investigate and resolve complex network incidents across Layer 2 and Layer 3
- Take ownership of service-impacting issues from detection through resolution
- Coordinate with field teams and remote engineers to remediate network faults
- Analyse traffic, logs, and system alerts to identify and resolve root causes
Incident Response & Escalation
- Serve as the technical escalation point for operational network issues
- Respond rapidly to high-severity events affecting network availability or performance
- Ensure incidents are tracked, communicated clearly, and driven to full resolution
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including cross-functional teams and service providers
Monitoring & Continuous Improvement
- Use monitoring and alerting tools to proactively identify potential network issues
- Contribute to optimising alert thresholds, dashboards, and operational procedures
- Recommend and implement preventative measures to improve reliability and performance
- Participate in projects to enhance network scalability and operational efficiency
Documentation & Process Management
- Maintain accurate incident logs, resolution steps, and technical documentation
- Develop and update operational procedures and troubleshooting guides
- Support network configuration management and asset tracking
- Ensure operational tasks adhere to SLAs and service expectations
Required Skills & Experience
- 3+ years’ experience in network operations or enterprise IP network support
- Strong practical knowledge of IP networking technologies (IPv4/IPv6, BGP, OSPF, MPLS)
- Experience troubleshooting network devices including routers, switches, and firewalls
- Hands-on experience with network monitoring and incident management tools
- Ability to analyse traffic flows, logs, and other network data to support troubleshooting
- Strong problem-solving skills, with a methodical approach under pressure
- Clear written and verbal communication for incident reporting and documentation
Desirable:
- Professional certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, JNCIA, or JNCIP
- Experience in multi-vendor network environments
- Exposure to large-scale enterprise or cloud networks
