Full Stack Engineer

Grow your full stack skills while modernising a core wealth platform used by advisers.

Join a prestigious financial services group in a permanent role and work on a well known platform for advisers and professional partners. In this full stack role you will help separate front end and back end, build out a modern React front end and support a gradual shift towards cloud and containerisation. You will work closely with an engineering manager, a senior engineer and business stakeholders with plenty of mentorship and room to grow.

Who you will be working with:

You will be joining an ASX listed, diversified financial services group that provides products and services in the wealth management space. The technology team is small and close knit, led by an engineering manager who acts as both tech lead and mentor.
The team owns a core platform that has evolved over many years and underpins critical processes across the business. You will be one of the key engineers on this product, working alongside experienced developers, a long tenured DevOps engineer and a junior developer as they separate the front end and back end and progressively modernise the stack.

Duties and responsibilities include:

• Contribute to refactoring a PHP based codebase, helping to separate front end and back end
  
  
• Implement React based front end components while working to replace existing Twig templates
  
  
• Develop and maintain RESTful APIs that expose business logic clearly to the new front end
  
  
• Work with containers day to day and support the team’s adoption of Docker based workflows
  
  
• Collaborate with the DevOps engineer on deployment, monitoring and steps towards AWS
  
  
• Work closely with business stakeholders to understand requirements for documents and workflows then translate them into practical solutions
  
  
• Participate in code reviews, testing and documentation to keep quality high and knowledge shared
  
  

We are looking for someone with:

• Around 3 to 5 years experience as a software engineer with strong PHP skills, ideally with a modern framework such as Symfony
  
  
• Commercial experience with React (around 1 to 2 years) building front ends for web applications
  
  
• Practical experience building or consuming RESTful APIs in production
  
  
• Docker experience is a nice to have or a strong desire to deepen your container skills
  
  
• Nice to have: exposure to AWS, Node.js, Vue or Twig templating and experience in on prem to cloud environments
  
  
• Solid understanding of relational databases such as MySQL plus Git based workflows and basic unit testing
  
  
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset, comfortable working with stakeholders and teammates in a small, highly interactive squad
