Computer Room Air Conditioning (CRAC) Technician

CRAC Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of precision cooling systems that support mission-critical IT infrastructure. This role ensures optimal environmental conditions in data centers and server rooms by maintaining temperature, humidity, and airflow within specified tolerances. The technician works closely with facilities, IT, and engineering teams to uphold uptime, energy efficiency, and compliance with operational standards.

Responsibilities

Major Job Activities:

• Install, maintain, and repair CRAC units, in-row cooling systems, and associated HVAC infrastructure.
• Monitor and adjust temperature, humidity, and airflow to meet ASHRAE and OEM specifications for data center environments.
• Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on CRAC systems, including filter changes, coil cleaning, refrigerant checks, and electrical diagnostics.
• Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, and control system issues in a timely and efficient manner.
• Document all work in NexGen or maintenance logs, including service reports, parts usage, and system performance metrics.
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols, environmental regulations, and manufacturer guidelines.
• Coordinate with vendors and contractors for major repairs, retrofits, or warranty service.
• Respond to emergency calls and participate in on-call rotation as needed to support 24/7 operations.
• Assist in training lower-level operators and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
• Document system changes and maintains accurate records of maintenance and repairs.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, codes, and regulations.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.
  
  

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Requires a high school diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver license
• Minimum 5 years of experience with CRAC or precision cooling systems in data centers or telecom environments.
• Licenses/Certifications:
• EPA 608 Universal Certification (required)
• HVAC/R trade license (preferred)
• OEM training on Liebert, Stulz, or APC systems (a plus)
• Must be able to pass a favorable national agency check (NAC)
  
  

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of refrigeration cycles, electrical schematics, and control systems
• Familiarity with BMS, EMS, or DCIM platforms
• Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals
• Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
• Strong attention to detail and documentation
• Ability to work independently and in team settings
• Comfortable working in high-security, temperature-controlled environments
• Work emergency situations as required..
• Excellent communication skills for coordinating with teams and documenting work.
