Director of Experience Design – Technology Platforms

The Technology Platforms unit within the Technology division is at the forefront of innovation, shaping the foundations for our products and services through strategic platform leadership and technological advancement.

We are seeking a visionary Director of Experience Design to lead our design and innovation efforts across technology platforms. This role will be instrumental in driving Customer Experience (CX) and User Experience (UX) results including research, processes, communication, implementing user-centered design strategies, fostering cross-functional collaboration, and elevating the overall experience of our digital and physical products.

Key Accountabilities

• Lead and evolve KM’s Experience Design strategy across technology platforms, ensuring consistency, usability, and innovation across more than 250 products.
• Own and develop KM’s design systems, processes, and guidelines, including the Waves Design System, ensuring seamless integration with development workflows and scalable, cohesive design practices.
• Champion transparency and knowledge management across design and development teams, enabling shared understanding and continuous improvement.
• Manage and mentor a high-performing, multidisciplinary team with expertise in UX/UI Design, Human Factors, Industrial Design, Systems-Oriented Design (SOD), and 3D/Virtual Experience Design.
• Drive strategic alignment and design commonality across KM’s product portfolio, working closely with product teams to ensure unified experience.
• Lead collaborative R&D initiatives with academic and industry partners, including institutions such as AHO (Oslo School of Architecture and Design) and Openbridge, to explore emerging design methodologies and technologies.
• Ensure data-driven design practices through user insights, operational data, and iterative testing.
• Represent KM in design and innovation forums, steering committees, and external partnerships.
• Develop and execute strategies for design-led IP creation and protection.
  
  

Qualifications And Experience

• MSc or equivalent in design, human-computer interaction, or a technology-related discipline.
• Proven leadership in experience design within complex technology environments.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating successful design outcomes across hardware and software platforms.
• Experience securing external funding and managing strategic partnerships.
• Deep understanding of Norwegian and EU innovation ecosystems.
• Excellent communication, storytelling, and presentation skills.
• Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
