Software Engineer

About the Role

My client is seeking a motivated full-stack engineer - someone with a few years of real-world experience who’s ready to take ownership of their work and grow within a supportive, pragmatic team.

Most of your time will be spent handling change requests and feature work for our clients: everything from small bugfixes to full new capabilities in our underwriting platform. You’ll be trusted to take problems, understand them, and deliver solutions - with the backing of a senior team that’s happy to help you learn and succeed.

What You’ll Do

• Extend and improve our underwriting platform for both new and existing clients
• Work across the stack - from frontend (React) to backend services (Go / Node / TypeScript)
• Collaborate with other developers, product managers, and QA to deliver features
• Help maintain UI and UX consistency across our products
• Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve issues in production systems

What We’re Looking For

Essential Skills & Experience

• Able to communicate clearly, ask for help when stuck, and collaborate with the wider team
• Curious, motivated, and proactive - someone who picks up tasks and sees them through
• 2 - 4 years of professional software development experience
• Comfortable working as a full-stack developer, covering frontend, backend and databases
• Practical experience with React
• Professional experience with at least one of: Golang, Node.js / TypeScript
• Comfortable working with RESTful APIs and CRUD-style backend development
• Familiar with Git with a good understanding of source control

Nice to Have

• Experience working with iterative changes safely on production systems
• Professional experience with Postgres (or other relational databases)
• Past exposure to both “good” and “bad” engineering practices — and a sense of what works
• Comfortable in the terminal and with unix tools
• Has done code reviews and/or pair programming
