PhD opportunity at NTNU!

We have a PhD position open in Synthetic Biology and Metagenomics as part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Network (MSCA-DN) project MetaExplore – Ultrahigh-throughput exploration of metagenomic sequence space to discover and engineer novel biocatalysts and bioactive compounds, coordinated by the University of Cambridge in England. 

About MetaExplore

MetaExplore brings together 23 partners across Europe to unlock the hidden potential of global metagenomic sequence space. Through synthetic biology, machine learning, and ultrahigh-throughput microfluidic screening, the consortium aims to discover and engineer novel enzymes and bioactive compounds for sustainable applications in biotechnology, medicine, and beyond.

At NTNU, the PhD project focuses on developing novel expression tools and alternative microbial hosts to improve hit rates from metagenomic libraries. Combining AI-guided promoter design and engineered strains, the work aims to enhance the efficiency and reliability of functional screening and heterologous gene expression.
