Java Consultant

We are seeking an experienced Senior Java Developer to support a major digital transformation initiative within one of Belgium’s most prominent banking institutions.

Logistics:

• Position: Freelance Senior Java Developer
• Duration: 12-month rolling contract (extensions expected)
• Location: Brussels (Hybrid - 2 days on-site per week)
• Start Date: Mid-November
• Day Rate: €(Competitive & Negotiable)
• Languages: English (Dutch or French is a plus)

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain robust backend services using Java (Spring Framework)
• Translate functional requirements into clean, high-quality, maintainable code
• Build and secure RESTful APIs and integrate with third-party systems
• Evolve and migrate legacy systems into modern Java-based platforms
• Collaborate closely with analysts, testers, and fellow developers in an Agile squad
• Drive performance, reliability, and security through unit testing, code reviews, and refactoring
• Participate in CI/CD pipelines and help shape DevOps best practices
• Contribute to a culture of clean code, pair programming, and continuous improvement

Ideal Candidate:

• 4+ years of professional experience in Java backend development
• Strong grasp of Object-Oriented Programming, SOLID principles, and domain-driven design
• Experience with Spring, Maven, Oracle DB, and REST APIs
• Familiarity with tools like Git, Jenkins, SonarQube, Fortify, and NexusIQ
• Proactive communicator who enjoys collaborative problem-solving in Agile teams
• Committed to writing readable, testable, and maintainable code (TDD experience is a plus)
• Experience with code reviews, pair programming, and Scrum methodologies
• Strong sense of ownership and eagerness to contribute to team success

Desirable:

• Experience with modern CI/CD and DevSecOps pipelines
• Background in regulated sectors such as banking, insurance, or telecom
• Knowledge of containerization, cloud deployments, or large-scale integrations
• Exposure to event-driven systems, although not mandatory
