The Role 

We're seeking an experienced Senior Full Stack Developer to join our growing tech team and help us change more dogs' lives by architecting and building robust, scalable solutions as we rapidly expand across the UK. 

Key Responsibilities 

Full Stack Development 

• Design and develop high-performance, scalable applications using Node.js, TypeScript, and React 
• Build robust backend systems including APIs, microservices, and data processing pipelines 
• Develop and maintain UI components using React and Storybook, with a focus on Server-Side Rendering (SSR) using Next.js and React Server Components 
• Architect solutions spanning the entire technology stack from database to user interface 
• Optimise applications for maximum speed, scalability, and performance 

Backend Systems & Architecture

• Design and implement efficient database schemas, queries, and data migrations 
• Build and maintain integrations with third-party services (payment systems, logistics, CRM) 
• Implement comprehensive security measures and compliance standards 
• Lead technical decision-making on system architecture and design patterns 

DevOps & Infrastructure (Strongly Preferred) 

• Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation 
• Manage and optimise AWS cloud infrastructure, including serverless architectures 
• Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting systems for production environments 
• Automate development workflows and testing processes 

Technical Leadership 

• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level developers 
• Lead code reviews and establish coding standards across the stack 
• Contribute to architectural decisions and technical roadmap planning 
• Drive technical discussions and knowledge sharing within the team 

Requirements 

Technical Expertise 

• 5+ years backend development experience with Node.js and TypeScript 
• 5+ years frontend development experience with React (essential) 
• Familiarity with Next.js, Storybook, and Tailwind CSS 
• AWS experience with core services (Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, S3, CloudFormation) 
• Database experience with both SQL and NoSQL databases 
• API design and development with RESTful services 

Strongly Preferred Skills 

• DevOps experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code 
• Containerisation knowledge (Docker) and serverless architecture 
• Infrastructure as code tools (CloudFormation, Terraform, CDK) 
• Monitoring and observability tools (CloudWatch, DataDog, New Relic) 
• Security best practices and performance optimisation experience 

Leadership & Communication 

• Experience mentoring developers and leading technical initiatives 
• Strong problem-solving skills with ability to architect full stack solutions 
• Excellent communication skills with non-technical stakeholders 
• Experience in agile environments and cross-functional teams 

Education & Location 

• Higher Education in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent industry experience 
• Must be UK-based with right to work in the UK

Reporting Structure 

Reports to Head of Engineering, working closely with development team, Product Manager, and cross-functional stakeholders.
