Senior UX/UI Specialist - Europe's Innovation Lab

About the Role:
Join Europe's Innovation Lab as a Senior UX/UI Specialist and contribute to cutting-edge law enforcement technology solutions. Work with a dynamic cross-functional team of 15 professionals to design innovative tools that combat crime and enhance security across Europe.
Contract Details:
- Initial contract: 130 working days over 8 months
- Potential extension: Up to 530 additional working days over 3 years
- Start date: October 13, 2025
- Location: The Hague (on-site up to 5 days/week)
What You'll Do
- User Experience Research: Conduct comprehensive UX research with end-users of innovative law enforcement tools
- Design & Prototyping: Create wireframes, prototypes, personas, and empathy maps using Figma, Adobe XD, or Balsamiq
- Workshop Leadership: Organize and facilitate Design Thinking workshops, hackathons, and strategic design sessions with executive management
- Usability Testing: Design and execute usability studies and UX testing protocols
- Science Communication: Develop research materials, infographics, and video content using Adobe Creative Suite
- Collaborative Innovation: Apply user-centered approaches to co-create solutions for complex security challenges
Essential Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Master's degree + 6 years experience OR Bachelor's degree + 7 years experience
- Fluent English (C1 level or higher)
- 3+ years in design sector with expertise in Design Systems, usability heuristics, and WCAG 2.1 accessibility guidelines
Technical Experience:
- 3+ digital application UX design projects (desktop/mobile)
- 3+ physical/digital application projects using platforms like Arduino
- 1+ year with online community platforms or content management systems
- 1+ year conducting strategic/security design workshops with executive management
- 1+ year design experience in public authority or law enforcement environment
Core Knowledge:
- Design methodologies, Design Systems management, and accessibility standards
- User-centric design approaches
- Conceptual frameworks (Cynefin Framework or similar)
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Adobe XD, Balsamiq, Adobe Premiere Pro
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in science/technology communication event planning
- Knowledge of sustainable design principles
- Agile methodology experience (Scrum, Kanban)
- Emerging technologies and speculative design expertise
- Participatory Design and Co-Creation experience
