Title: Android Developer- WCAG Compliance

Location: 100% remote- EST or CST working hours preferred (Ok with MST and PST based candidates)

Contract Duration: 4-5 Month

Oxford's client is seeking a Senior Android developer for a 5-month contract to support our accessibility compliance effort. This senior-level role requires strong experience with Android’s accessibility APIs and TalkBack features. The Senior Android Developer will join a team of other developers to build out our accessibility features and see them through the full software lifecycle.

Due to incoming accessibility compliance requirements to their industry, they need to be WCAG compliant by April 2026. Goal is for first phase to be complete by 12/2025 and then have another 3rd party audit to see if they missed anything.

Role will follow a standard scrum and sprint schedule, will be assigned tasks in Jira and complete tickets. Will integrate to their current dev team (10-15 engineers on their team now)

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in the full software lifecycle to implement key accessibility features including development, PRs, and bugfixes
• Attend status meetings to report progress and bubble up issues
• Assist and mentor other developers in the accessibility effort
• Provide guidance on accessibility best-practices as needed

Required Skills and Experience

• 5+ years of experience with Android’s Talkback and accessibility APIs in both Views and Jetpack Compose and understanding of WCAG 2.1.
• Familiarity with Agile and Scrum methodologies
• Strong communication and collaboration skills in remote/hybrid work environments.
• Self-directed with the ability to work independently and meet project deadlines.

Preferred Skills

• 5+ years of experience developing Android applications using Kotlin, Coroutines, Views, and Jetpack Compose.
• 5+ years of experience working with RESTful APIs and GraphQL services using tools such as RetroFit, OkHttp, Volley, Apollo, or similar
• 5+ years of experience with Git, including branching, merging, and pull request workflow.
• 3+ years of experience with audio and video playback using ExoPlayer and media session APIs
• 3+ years of experience writing unit and integration tests with JUnit, Mockito, or similar frameworks.
• Deep understanding of application architecture using MVVM, with exposure to architectural principles such as Dependency Injection (DI), Domain-Driven Design (DDD), and Clean Architecture.
• Proficiency in local data storage using SQLite, Room, or equivalent libraries.
• Experience with Compose Multiplatform and Kotlin Multiplatform.
• Proficiency in AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Gemini, or similar.
• Familiarity with feature flagging tools and practices.
• Proven ability to work in an agile environment with a strong focus on continuous integration and delivery.
• Experience with project management and documentation tools such as JIRA and Confluence.
• Skilled in performance analysis and optimization using profiling and debugging tools.
• Strong interpersonal skills with excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
