Job Title: DevOps Specialist (OpenShift Lead)
Location: Remote – Canada
Duration: 12+ Months (Contract, with possible extension)
Overview:
We are seeking an experienced DevOps Specialist – OpenShift Lead to support digital transformation and modernization initiatives. This role will focus on leading platform operations for OpenShift clusters (on-premises and cloud) while driving automation, infrastructure scalability, and operational excellence. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams and vendors, provide technical leadership, and deliver solutions that enable faster and more efficient service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage OpenShift platform operations (cloud and on-prem).
- Architect and execute large-scale infrastructure projects (cluster rebuilds, expansions, and migrations).
- Collaborate with stakeholders and vendors to ensure platform reliability, scalability, and security.
- Build and maintain automation tools, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible, Helm).
- Monitor and optimize cluster health, performance, and capacity across environments.
- Implement security best practices, including RBAC, secrets management, encryption, and patching.
- Define and implement backup strategies, disaster recovery, and high availability.
- Diagnose and resolve platform and application issues quickly.
- Create dashboards, monitoring, and observability tools to improve operational efficiency.
- Provide incident response and production readiness support.
- Drive adoption of DevOps best practices across delivery teams.
- Support additional DevOps tools such as BuildMaster and GitHub ARC.
Required Experience & Skills
- Strong background in research, analysis, and problem-solving (7+ years).
- Proven experience leading cross-functional teams and vendor coordination (2+ years).
- Hands-on experience architecting, managing, and maintaining Azure Red Hat OpenShift clusters (5+ years).
- Strong expertise in monitoring, alerting, and incident detection systems (7+ years).
- Skilled in documenting technical issues, architecture decisions, and procedures (7+ years).
- Experience installing, configuring, and administering BuildMaster (3+ years).
- Infrastructure leadership in OpenShift cluster rebuilds, expansions, and migrations (5+ years).
- Production release readiness and incident response experience (3+ years).
- General cloud consultancy with Azure, including governance, best practices, and cost optimization (2+ years).
- Strong knowledge of cloud operations, platform engineering, and security awareness (5+ years).
- Proficiency with CLI tools and Linux command-line navigation (7+ years).
- Experience creating and maintaining BuildMaster workflows (5+ years).
- Hands-on with IaC tools such as Terraform (3+ years).
- Strong networking fundamentals (DNS, load balancing, trace routes, etc.) (7+ years).
- Background in compliance-heavy or public sector environments (e.g., NIST, PCI-DSS, DoD) (3+ years).
- Disaster recovery planning and testing (2+ years).
- Prior work experience in public sector or regulated industries (2+ years).
