We are after a Senior Platform Engineer to join a team data scientists, machine learning engineers, cloud engineers, systems and software engineers with this super cool organisation in predictive analytics for sports.
This role will be building the next generation of platform architecture.
Required: AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, IAAS, CI/CD, Linux
Hybrid - 3 days in Sydney CBD office
The Senior Platform Engineer will:
- Be able to take high-level requirements and own them end-to-end, turning open-ended problems into production-ready solutions.
- Possess excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with a track record of building reliable systems.
- Be able to adequately document (both diagrammatically and in writing) all relevant parts of the platform and applications as they are designed or developed.
- Be a fast learner with the humility to adopt and uphold existing team standards, while proactively contributing to their improvement.
- Possess strong expertise in AWS cloud infrastructure, including running containerised workloads on Kubernetes (EKS) in production.
- Have familiarity with the broader Kubernetes ecosystem, including cluster autoscalers (e.g., Karpenter), event-driven scaling (KEDA), service mesh (Istio), CNI plugins (Cilium), and ingress controllers (NGINX).
- Possess expert-level Linux abilities. Linux shouldn’t feel like a skill, but rather a second-nature fact of life. Smashing out "bash one-liners" should come as naturally as speaking.
- Be a coder at heart, with top-tier proficiency in Python and/or Golang for building and automating platform tooling.
- Perform automation and scripting (Infrastructure-as-Code, CI/CD) to streamline cloud delivery.
- Be comfortable with frequent, incremental code testing and continuous deployment.
- Have a strong grasp of modern automation tools and methodologies (IaC, GitOps, etc.).
- Maintain a strong focus on business outcomes, ensuring that engineering work delivers value.
- Be comfortable with collaboration, open communication and reaching across functional borders (partnering with Data Science, Security Teams, etc.).
- Understand what’s involved in building and maintaining highly available, cloud-native (12-factor) applications, and be able to define and advocate standards for developers to follow.
- Have a strong security-first mindset with experience implementing Cloud/Kubernetes security best practices (IAM, KMS, RBAC, network policies, container image scanning, etc.) and an understanding of compliance requirements in secure environments (e.g., PCI-DSS, ISO 27001).
- Apply a strong DevSecOps mindset to all platform work (embedding security at every level).
- Be able to build and support the infrastructure for machine learning model training and serving (E.g. Kubeflow, MLFlow, KServe, Feast), to empower our Data Science teams.
- Research and experiment with new technologies (e.g., self-hosted LLM engines, CNCF projects) that can enhance our platform, provide recommendations and drive adoption.
