L1 Network Engineer (Contract Role)

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Level 1 (L1) Network Engineer to join the technology operations team of our client within a leading financial institution. The ideal candidate will have direct experience working in a financial environment, understand the strict compliance and security requirements, and possess a strong technical foundation in network support and troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide Level 1 support for network incidents, troubleshooting hardware and connectivity issues (LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi, routers, switches, firewalls).
• Monitor network health using enterprise monitoring tools and escalate unresolved issues as required.
• Perform routine network administration and maintenance tasks following established procedures and compliance protocols.
• Assist with network changes (patching, hardware swaps, basic configuration) under the supervision of senior staff.
• Document incidents, solutions, and technical procedures in accordance with internal standards.
• Comply with all financial institution security, risk management, and regulatory policies while handling sensitive information.
• Liaise with vendors and service providers for issue tracking and resolution.
• Participate in a 24/7 shift pattern as required by business needs.

Requirements:

• Minimum 5 year of hands-on L1 network support experience in a financial institution (bank, insurance, capital markets, etc.).
• Familiarity with enterprise-grade network protocols, topologies, and security requirements typical to financial environments.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and hardware such as switches, routers, and firewalls.
• Working knowledge of compliance, audit, and documentation practices required in regulated financial settings.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.
• Diploma or degree in Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related field. Networking certifications (e.g. CCNA, CompTIA Network+) are an advantage.
