DevOps Engineer

Job Title: DevOps Data Engineer

Location: Argentina, Remote

Job Description:

We have several upcoming initiatives, and one of the biggest accelerators for our team would be to bring someone with strong DevOps experience (Terraform, Helm, Argo) to help jumpstart our work. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with the command line interface (CLI) and able to write scripts that pull data from REST APIs. We would also like to include this person in our on-call rotation (which involves a potential after-hours component, but we don’t get called too often). Additionally, they will be responsible for handling daily operational requests. We already have a set of runbooks in place, so we’re not looking for a Kafka expert, but we do need someone who has extensive CLI experience and is comfortable with the rest of the stack.

Focus Areas:

• Problem-solving
• On-call and daily support
• Assisting with daily support using established runbooks and CLI
• Participation in after-hours on-call rotation (low volume, rotating across team members)
• Cross-team collaboration
• Development and troubleshooting of Kubernetes, Helm, Argo, and Terraform deployments for both internal teams and third-party software
• Some shell scripting
• Familiarity with extracting data via REST APIs and performing some data wrangling
• Ability to script automation for Proof of Concept (PoC) work and validate success
• Exploratory software testing (including UI and API capabilities)

Responsibilities:

• Assist the team with multiple projects and PoC work
• Extract data from REST APIs and build automation based on the results
• Comfortable working in the terminal and executing CLI commands for daily support operations
• Build and troubleshoot deployment pipelines for the team using GitHub pipelines, Helm, Argo, and Terraform
• Troubleshoot deployment issues
• Deploy components using Kubernetes Custom Resources and Operators from third-party vendors
• Establish data connections, expose services securely, and manage secrets
• Deploy and test software components on Kubernetes for PoC efforts
• Provide operational support for Kafka (no deep expertise required)
• Read and write shell scripts

Requirements:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong expertise with Kubernetes, Helm, and Argo for building and troubleshooting deployments
• Proficiency with Terraform
• Ability to read and navigate code in multiple programming languages
• Proficient in working with containers
• Experience with code management in GitHub, including collaboration in peer reviews, feature branches, and resolving conflicts and commits
• Strong sense of responsibility and a bias toward action
• Comfortable with self-direction and prioritizing tasks
• Proficient in shell scripting and CLI
• Experience with microservices is a plus
• Experience with at least one cloud provider (Azure preferred)
• Familiarity with Kafka or other messaging systems is a plus
• Experience with New Relic or Prometheus/Grafana is a plus (but not required)
• Experience with Azure Event Hubs is a bonus (but not required)
