Java Software Engineer

We're looking for a motivated Java Developer with a knack for both bug fixing and feature enhancement to step into an ongoing project with one of our partners. This is a great opportunity to pick up a running system and make a strong impact from day one.

Logistics:

• Position: Freelance Java Developer
• Duration: Initial 12-Month Contract (extension likely)
• Location: Ghent (Hybrid - 2 to 3 days/week on-site)
• Languages: Dutch (required)
• Start Date: Ideally 4 August 2025 (for handover period)
• Day Rate: €(Negotiable)

Core Responsibilities:

• Diagnose and resolve bugs in existing applications (50% of your time)
• Develop and implement new features and improvements (50% of your time)
• Work closely with internal teams to ensure smooth functionality across business-critical systems
• Maintain and improve code quality, documentation, and performance
• Contribute to deployments within an OpenShift environment
• Perform database queries and manage relational data

Essential Skills:

• 1–2 years of hands-on experience in Java (Spring Boot framework)
• Experience working with Kafka in event-driven systems
• Good understanding of OpenShift (or similar container platforms)
• Familiar with SQL-based databases (MySQL preferred)
• Exposure to ETL processes and querying mechanisms (basic understanding sufficient)
• Ability to work partly on-site in Ghent and communicate effectively in Dutch
