Job Title: Secure Data and Document Exchange Expert (hybrid mode , location: Brussels)
About The Role
As a Secure Data and Document Exchange Expert, you will play a key role in designing and implementing secure messaging systems and data exchange protocols between backend systems and public-sector platforms. Your expertise will directly support secure digital communications within and across EU institutions.

As a Secure Data and Document Exchange Expert, you will play a key role in designing and implementing secure messaging systems and data exchange protocols between backend systems and public-sector platforms. Your expertise will directly support secure digital communications within and across EU institutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement secure integration layers between backend systems and messaging tools
- Provide expert guidance on key security principles:
- Confidentiality
- Integrity
- Authentication
- Authorization
- Availability
- Non-repudiation
- Conduct risk and vulnerability assessments for messaging/data transfer systems
- Maintain and evolve technical specifications for messaging and transport protocols
- Optimize the performance and robustness of secure data exchange workflows
Education & Experience
- Master’s degree with 5+ years OR Bachelor’s with 9+ years of relevant experience
- Proven background in: Digital signatures X.509 PKI ASiC eIDAS standards
- Strong Java development skills with knowledge of object-oriented programming
- Proficient with transactional databases: SQL, LDAP, ACID/XA
- In-depth knowledge of secure messaging standards:
- ebMS3
- AS4
- XML, JSON
- BDXL
- Strong grasp of web security protocols:
- TLS
- OAuth2
- OpenID
- WS-Security
- OWASP
- Mobile app security experience (Android in Java/Kotlin and iOS in Swift), including Key Attestation
- Infrastructure and security tools experience:
- Docker
- Kubernetes
- Linux
- TPM
- HSM
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies: SCRUM, OpenPM2
- Proficient with collaboration tools: Jira, Confluence
- Excellent communication, documentation, and teamwork skills
- Fluent in English and French (C1 level)
- SANS Web Application Tester certification
- Experience working with or for EU institutions
- Certifications in:
- Security
- Project management
- Software engineering
- Background in multicultural, large-scale international projects
