Product Designer – Technologist (Design-First)

Location: Melbourne

Salary: Up to $155k total annual package (Depending on experience)

Permanent Role: All the perks of a full time position

Hybrid Role: 3 days on-site with a creative team in Mulgrave

Are you a dynamic and innovative Product Designer with a strong technical background? Can you talk the talk with engineering teams and give them direction on capabilities? We need someone with coding capabilities to bring design to life.

This is an exciting opportunity as our client is looking for a Product Design Technologist to join their team.

About The Role

We are seeking candidates with a solid product experience who can demonstrate strong capabilities in the following areas:

  • UI Design: Proven track record producing high fidelity design, design systems including component libraries and proficient in tools such as Figma, Storybook, Optimizely and Knapsack
  • UX Research: experience to enhance the UX of complex systems, touchpoints and functionality across all phases of the product lifecycle.
  • Product Technology Experience: Knowledge of front-end engineering, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript and Typescript and experience with frameworks and libraries like Next.js, React Typescript, tailwind-ui, redux, framer, headless-ui/react, working in a Node environment and the ability to be able to talk the talk with the engineering team
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in atomic design and a keen understanding of how to engineer high-quality experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Solution Design: Achieve goals through rapid prototyping using technology and a designer’s mindset that thinks in code.
  • Engineering Collaboration: Be ok working with an engineering team to improve their execution and quality of experiences. Introduce best practices and delightful touches to enhance user experiences.
  • Prototyping and Development: Capable of hands-on development, producing prototypes, and providing architectural guidance.

Ideal Candidate

  • Experience from an agency, providing exposure to various workflows and projects, or from a retailer that has transitioned to modern practices.
  • Background from large scale companies, preferably retail/ecommerce and skilled in early adoption of design systems, experience creating design system components and optimising digital experiences.
  • Passionate about Design and what’s possible, strong communication and an advocate for design, a “do-er” who can hit the ground running.
  • Must have sound coding capabilities.
