Responsibilities

• Architect, configure, and deploy robust Kafka solutions to support scalable data flow and low-latency event processing.
• Monitor and tune the performance, health, and availability of messaging systems in production environments.
• Handle incident resolution, root cause analysis, and performance optimizations for Kafka pipelines and related infrastructure.
• Define and implement access control, audit, and governance policies for secure data handling.
• Collaborate with software engineers, data teams, and platform engineers to build and operate reliable data delivery pipelines.
• Research and evaluate emerging tools, technologies, and patterns in the streaming and messaging domains.
• Provide secondary support and administration for IBM MQ systems (patching, queue/channel configuration, monitoring, etc.) as needed.

Profile

• Substantial hands-on experience operating Kafka platforms (self-managed and/or Confluent Cloud) in demanding production settings.
• In-depth knowledge of Kafka architecture, internals (brokers, partitions, replication, etc.), and surrounding tooling (Kafka Connect, Schema Registry, ksqlDB).
• Fluent in Java for building Kafka producers/consumers and stream processing applications.
• Exposure to IBM MQ Series from an operational/engineering perspective is a major asset.
• Comfortable with scripting in Bash, Python, and/or PowerShell for automation and system tasks.
• Experience with DevOps toolchains, including GitHub, Jira, CI/CD platforms (e.g., Azure DevOps), and observability tools (e.g., Splunk).
• Familiarity with infrastructure automation via tools like Terraform and Ansible.
• Proficient in Linux environments, with a strong focus on system-level troubleshooting and performance tuning.
• Strong team player with clear communication skills, curiosity, and a continuous improvement mindset.
