Gill Books, Ireland’s leading trade publisher is seeking a designer to join our team.


We publish a diverse range of books on every aspect of Irish life and work with some very talented people. We are looking for a designer who can bring fresh ideas to the table and is well-versed in managing multiple projects at various stages of development.


The ideal candidate will be passionate about design, know how to make a spread visually appealing and have confidence in presenting their ideas to stakeholders. Reporting to the Head of Production, you will have an opportunity to contribute to the development of our expanding children’s and non-fiction lists.


To be successful in this role, you will be comfortable prioritising and managing a busy workload, with a track record of successfully delivering to deadlines while meeting the expectations of multiple stakeholders.


You will have excellent attention to detail, a passion for producing high-quality books and will be able to demonstrate a calm, positive and flexible approach to your work – even when you are under pressure. You will be adept at working alongside a team, as well as independently.

Key responsibilities include:


*Design and layout of a selection of trade books from brief, including interiors and covers, mono and colour.

*Typesetting from an existing design.

*Providing creative input at our weekly product design meetings.

*Managing the correction and supply of text/cover files for reprints and new editions.

*Creating offline and online artwork/graphics for marketing and publicity requirements.

*Sourcing and briefing illustrators.

*Keeping up to date with current trends in book design and being market-aware.

*Any other Production & Design work allocated by the Head of Production.


Key requirements:


*A mid-level graphic designer with at least 2-3 years’ experience in the publishing industry, with knowledge of and interest in book design.

*Excellent design, typographic and IT skills with an advanced knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.

*Experience with designing, preparing, and outputting files for print as well as good knowledge of pre-press and colour management issues.

*Organised, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

*The ability to communicate ideas succinctly and effectively.


This role is based at our Park West, Dublin 12 office and this role is available under a hybrid working model (at least 2 days a week in office).
