Software Engineer

Are you a Software Engineer looking to get into mentorship and leading a team? Are you highly experienced with PHP? If you answered yes to both of these questions, Zywave would love to speak with you! Zywave is looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Technical Lead to join our team.

In this role you will:

• Work on an Agency Management System relied on daily by thousands of customers
• Develop web applications written in PHP, work with Kubernetes in AWS, support a MySQL DB, and more
• Test, provide feedback, review customer issues, document, troubleshoot our applications, and take part in the On-Call Rotation
• Help make a variety of technical decisions as well as ensure that the technical direction of the product supports the business needs
• Mentor and train other developers on the team
• Participate in product discovery and research to develop a deep understanding of customer problems and needs
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of the product development lifecycle

Technical Expertise

• 3+ years of experience developing scalable web applications.
• 2+ years of experience with PHP in a production environment.
• Distinguished understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), SOLID principles, and application of design patterns to promote maintainability and extensibility.
• Strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), with experience in planning, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance phases.
• Solid understanding of relational databases such as MySQL, including query optimization and schema design.

Collaboration

• Willingness to give and receive feedback constructively to improve team performance.
• Experience working in Agile or cross-functional teams, collaborating with product managers, designers, and QA.

Bonus points for

• Working knowledge of containerization using Docker, and experience deploying Helm and managing services on Kubernetes.
• Experience working in AWS or other cloud environments is a plus.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical decisions into business value.
• Hands-on experience with Laravel or similar PHP frameworks.
• Familiarity with OWASP security practices and designing secure systems.
• Experience implementing and managing 2-legged and 3-legged authentication patterns (e.g., OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, Backend for Frontend - BFF).
