Senior Java Developer (Hybrid Sydney-based, 12-month contract)
The Role
As a Senior Engineer within an FX team, you’ll play a pivotal role in developing and maintaining systems that handle complex post-trade risk data and regulatory reporting (APHRA requirements). You will design, implement, test, and deploy ETL pipelines, APIs, and microservices in a fast-paced environment, balancing independent work with collaboration. You’ll also mentor junior team members, challenge existing processes, and continuously seek innovative solutions.
You’ll be joining a skilled team with a high level of tenure, aiming to increase delivery velocity and meet a critical project deadline set for mid next year. The work involves orchestrating both vendor and in-house components within an OpenShift-based Kubernetes environment, managing messaging with RabbitMQ, and working with internal S3 data storage.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and maintain ETL processes using Kotlin and Java (Spring Boot) within a Kubernetes containerized environment.
- Build, test, deploy, and manage APIs and microservices for market risk data integration and reporting.
- Collaborate closely with business analysts, testers, and other engineers to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Mentor team members and promote best practices across development and testing.
- Manage SDLC processes with strong DevOps practices (CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Helm).
- Interact with legacy SQL systems, resolving integration challenges and improving system robustness.
- Lead developer-led testing efforts, including take-home tasks and technical discussions during the interview process.
- Continuously improve delivery velocity while maintaining high-quality code standards.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong development experience with Kotlin and/or Java (Spring Boot).
- Solid experience in container orchestration with Kubernetes and OpenShift.
- Hands-on experience with messaging systems like RabbitMQ and managing data in S3 storage environments.
- Familiarity with enterprise-grade API development, microservices architecture, and integration endpoints.
- Practical skills with SQL databases such as MS SQL, Oracle, or MySQL.
- Strong DevOps background, including CI/CD, Docker, and Helm.
- Comfortable working within Agile frameworks and developer-led testing methodologies.
- Experience with JVM optimization, concurrent programming, and Java 8 features is a plus.
- Experience working in regulated financial environments or with regulatory reporting is advantageous.
- Excellent communication skills, able to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
- Proactive, self-starter mindset with a passion for continuous improvement and innovation.
Why Join the team?
- Meaningful, high-impact work contributing to regulatory compliance and market risk technology.
- Hybrid working model with office presence required Tuesdays through Thursdays.
- Collaborative environment with opportunities to learn, grow, and lead.
- Join a diverse and inclusive team dedicated to flexible work arrangements and employee wellbeing.
- Work with modern tech stacks and best practices in a growing, dynamic technology organization.
