AI/ML Engineer or Data Analyst (Remote)

Care1
Canada · Full-time · Entry

Are you a creative, ambitious, and curious AI/ML Engineer or Data Analyst with at least 1-3 years of experience, and eager to build something meaningful from the ground up?

At Care1, we’re looking for a self-starter with a growth mindset. Someone who thrives in ambiguity, finds joy in rapid learning, and wants to play a foundational role in shaping not just our technology, but our team and culture. This is a unique opportunity to help lead the early AI efforts at a fast-moving, revenue-generating health tech company that’s already making a measurable impact in the lives of thousands of patients.

What We Do

Care1 is transforming eyecare. Our cloud-based platform connects eye doctors (ophthalmologists and optometrists), enabling them to screen, diagnose, and treat patients remotely. We’re also at the frontier of developing and deploying deep learning models to detect complex eye diseases, leveraging 3D imaging, OCT (optical coherence tomography), and advanced visual field data.

With over 200+ doctors on our platform and more than 150,000 patients served, we’re building one of the largest teleophthalmology networks in the world. But we’re just getting started, and we want you to be part of this next phase of growth.

Your Role

As the first full-time AI team member, you’ll lead end-to-end development of experimental and production-ready AI models. From literature review, research, model training and prompt engineering, to deployment and monitoring on our live platform.

We run fast, lean, and creatively. Most projects move in 1–2 week cycles, and you’ll be collaborating across clinical, technical, and product teams, including directly with medical doctors and surgeons, to explore new ideas and rapidly test solutions that could change how vision care is delivered.

You’ll be supported by two senior part-time ML engineers and work closely with our leadership team, gaining mentorship, autonomy, and visibility from day one.

Who You Are

You’re entrepreneurial, with a bias toward action and a drive to own problems end-to-end.

You love diving into research, exploring novel techniques, and finding elegant solutions that make a difference.

You have an eye for detail, a love of iteration, and the ability to zoom in and out from big-picture thinking to low-level debugging.

You’re excited to help shape the culture of a growing AI team, setting a high bar for curiosity, care, and collaboration.
