Backend Engineer – Remote (Austria-Based)

Location: Remote within Austria

I’m currently hiring on behalf of an early-stage startup that’s building cutting-edge software to help manufacturers operate more sustainably. Their platform automates Life Cycle Assessments and empowers businesses to meet regulatory requirements, reduce emissions, and drive transparency, without the manual overhead.

They’re now looking to bring in a Backend Engineer who can take the lead on backend systems while contributing across the stack. This is a great opportunity for someone who thrives in a startup environment and wants to have a real say in what gets built and how.

The Opportunity

• Join a small, fast-moving engineering team working closely with leadership and product
• Build core backend systems—APIs, automation pipelines, and data infrastructure
• Contribute to the product direction, not just code execution
• Collaborate with users to understand real-world challenges and shape the right solutions
• Optional: grow into areas like AI/ML as the platform evolves

What They’re After

• Proven experience building and scaling backend systems (Python is ideal, but not required)
• Solid understanding of API design and relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL)
• Comfortable taking initiative and solving problems without waiting on instructions
• Able to work on some frontend components when needed (not a frontend-heavy role)
• Strong product intuition and ability to make technical decisions that solve user problems

Would Be Nice

• Familiarity with system architecture or test automation
• Background or interest in ML tools, vector databases, or adjacent tech
• Past experience owning major projects or technical components from start to finish

Requirements: You must be based in Austria and full working rights are essential.
